UnBecoming

"UnBecoming" is a series of work transitioning from two dimensions into three dimensions to illustrate my increasing interest in using “materials” as “metaphor.”

Much of my inspiration came from reading existential writings of authors such as Sartre, Camus, Artaud, and Beckett, etc. I enjoyed their vivid use of metaphors using seemingly insignificant objects like nails to describe the profound qualities of being human.

In turn I began to use nails, wire, rope, mirrors, old drawing boards, etc, combined with traditional materials of graphite, ink and paint. I also introduced the use of text into the work to expand and compliment the ideas.
